LA JOLLA, CALIF. — Kashi Co. said it has reduced several of its packages by as much as 12.4% in a sustainable effort to avoid excess waste. Among the foods that now feature less packaging are Kashi GOLEAN Crunch! Honey Almond Flax and GOLEAN Crisp! Toasted Berry Crumble cereals, all Kashi TLC crackers, as well as the entire line of TLC Chewy Granola Bars and TLC Fruit & Grain Bars.

“Kashi is proud to provide great-tasting, natural foods that deliver positive nutrition and enable people to live their best lives, but we recognize that responsibility goes far beyond nutrition,” said Jeff Johnson, senior nutritionist and natural lifestyle expert. “Optimal health is not only essential for people, but is just as important for our environment. We have a real passion for nurturing and improving the health of the world we live in, and reducing our packaging is just one way Kashi can make a positive difference.”

Among the changes made, all varieties of Kashi TLC crackers feature 12.4% less packaging. Kashi TLC Fruit & Grain Bars have 4.6% less packaging, while the TLC Chewy Granola Bars have 10.9% less packaging. Kashi GOLEAN Crunch! Honey Almond Flax cereal now will have 3.9% less packaging than the previous boxes, and Kashi GOLEAN Crisp! Toasted Berry Crumble cereal boxes will have 3.9% less packaging.

All calculations are determined by weight versus previous packaging design, Kashi said. The company added while the physical packaging of select Kashi foods has been reduced, the total volume of food within each package remains the same.

“The Kashi family is always working on new ways we can provide people with better foods, as well as make changes that will help keep our natural surroundings intact,” Mr. Jackson said. “We believe that a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about food, and we are excited about the long-term benefit that our new packaging changes will have on the environment.”
