TOLEDO, OHIO — An Archer Daniels Midland Co. grain storage bin that caught fire early Sept. 13 remained closed as of this morning as firefighters continued to monitor the smoldering grain.

The bin, which stores wheat, is one of about 300 bins on the site.

Roman Blahoski, a spokesperson for ADM, said no injuries were reported and all of the approximately 20 employees at the grain terminal were evacuated after “excessive heat” was noted coming from one of the bins at about 6:30 a.m. C.D.T. on Sept. 13.

Decatur, Ill.-based ADM acquired the Toledo grain elevator in 1994, Mr. Blahoski said. The grain elevator on the site has capacity of 9,795,000 bus, according to the 2010 Grain & Milling Annual published by Sosland Publishing Co.
