Uno adds more whole grains to menu

BOSTON — Customers looking to add whole grains to their diet will now have the choice to do so at Uno restaurants following the revamp of the chain’s menu.
As part of the change, Uno said it is allowing customers to substitute Barilla whole grain penne for any of its other pastas.
In addition, customers will be able to choose an indulgent deep dish pizza, or opt for an all-natural thin crust in a choice of five grain or traditional. The five grain crust has 9 grams of fiber and is made with whole wheat, wheat germ, oat bran, sesame seeds and ground flax seed, Uno said. Another change to the pizza lineup includes the introduction of gluten-free pizzas in three varieties: pepperoni, cheese and tomato, and veggie.
Other new menu items of note include a farro salad, which is a side dish made from an ancient whole grain with diced tomatoes, cucumbers and balsamic vinaigrette, and chicken tikka masala, which is a dish that features whole grain brown rice.
“We went to great lengths to listen to our guests and revamp our menu to meet their needs and desires,” said Richard Hendrie, senior vice-president of marketing for Uno Restaurant Holdings Corp. “What we learned is that diners want greater control over their choices, and more of them.”
Uno operates 160 company-owned and franchised restaurants located in 24 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Honduras, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
