Len Ballas, former c.e.o. of egg business, dies

CINCINNATI — Leonard P. Ballas, the retired chief executive officer of Ballas Egg Corp., died July 11 at the age of 82.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Ballas graduated in 1950 from The Ohio State University with a degree in animal science. He succeeded his father, Max Ballas, at the helm of the company, and worked with his son Craig Ballas at the business for 26 years before retiring in June 2011. Established in 1928, Ballas Egg is a supplier of dried eggs, frozen eggs and liquid eggs.
Mr. Ballas was involved in industry affairs, serving as an officer of the United Egg Association, Midwest Foods Association and Ohio Poultry Association.
Mr. Ballas was predeceased in 1984 by his wife of 31 years, Janice B. Ballas. He is survived by his second wife, Bea Levy, whom he married in 1986. He also is survived by a sister, Nina (Harvey) Mintzer; three children, Craig (Jody) Ballas; Steven (Allison) Ballas and Tracey (Todd) Schiff; a stepdaughter Sheryl (Scott) Mattis); and nine grandchildren.
The funeral was held July 13 at Beth Abraham Synagogue in Zanesville with burial at Beth Abraham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Ballas requested memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73123-1718.
