MINNETONKA, MINN. — An anti-trust investigation of Michael Foods, Inc. has been closed without indictments or charges filed, the company said Feb. 26.

The investigation by the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice began in March 2008. Michael Foods and other egg product companies were subpoenaed for documents related to the period between January 2008 and March 2008 relating "primarily to the pricing, marketing, and sales of our egg products."

The Philadelphia office of the D.O.J. conducted the investigation.

Michaels Foods’ egg products division includes Papetti’s, M.G. Waldbaum and MFI Food Canada. The company describes itself as the "largest global supplier of processed eggs."

A spokesperson for Golden Oval Eggs, Renville, Minn., said it has not been charged either. Golden Oval was subpoenaed for information at the same time as Michael Foods.

"We were informed early on by the Department that we were not a target of the investigation," said Jerry Armstrong, a vice-president at Golden Oval. "We have consistently said we comply with anti-trust rules, and we are glad it appears the investigation has ended without findings of wrongdoing by the egg industry."
