New ingredient features enhancers for salt reduction

KING’S LYNN, UNITED KINGDOM – Powersalt, a new ingredient featuring a combination of salt and natural enhancers, has been shown to reduce up to 50% of the salt added to manufactured products, according to King’s Lynn-based Norgrow International Ltd. The company launched the ingredient worldwide, including in the United States.
The use of natural fruit-based flavoring compounds increases the saltiness of a product by up to three times and increases the length of time the flavor of the finished product remains on the taste buds, according to the company. Powersalt includes thaumatin, a natural protein fruit extract.
