NEW ORLEANS — A Chinese company now is offering Lovia, a high-intensity sweetener that combines Rebaudioside A extracted from stevia plant leaves and mogroside V extracted from luo han guo fruit. Lovia uses the front end sweetness of luo han guo to weaken the bitterness associated with stevia, according to Guilin Layn Natural Ingredients Corp., Guilin, China. Lovia may be used in a variety of foods and beverages.

The company, which has a U.S. office in Newport Beach, Calif., is promoting Lovia during the Institute of Food Technologists’ annual meeting and food exposition, which ends Tuesday in New Orleans. The company is at Booth No. 4854.

Guilin Layn Natural Ingredients also offers Azevia, a brand name for its Rebaudioside A sweetener, and Go Luo, the brand name for its luo han guo sweetener. Luo han guo also is known as monkfruit.
