October wheat price down 61c from September

WASHINGTON — The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in October was $6.94 per bu, down 61c from $7.55 in September but up $1.06 from $5.88 in October 2010, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agricultural Prices report.

The average price paid for winter wheat in October was $6.31 a bu, down 70c from $7.01 in September but up 48c from $5.83 in October 2010. The average price paid for durum was $10.20 a bu, down 50c from $10.70 in September but up $5.13 from $5.07 a year earlier. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $7.93 per bu, down 12c from $8.05 in September but up $1.79 from $6.14 in October 2010.

The average price paid for rough rice in October was $14.90 a cwt, up 60c from $14.30 in September and up $3.40 from $11.50 a year earlier.

The October index of prices received by farmers for food grains was 229 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, down 7% from 246 the previous month but up 21% from 190 in October 2010.

The October index of freed grains was 257, down 5% from 269 in September but up 39% from 185 in October 2010. The average price paid to farmers for corn was $5.92 a bu, down 45c from $6.37 in September but up $1.60 from $4.32 in October 2010. Farmers received an average of $11.10 a cwt for grain sorghum in October, up 60c from $10.50 in September and up $3.30 from $7.80 in October 2010. The average price paid for oats in October was $3.45 a bu, down 22c from $3.67 in September but up 90c from $2.55 in October 2010.

The index of October prices received for oilseeds was 208, up 4% from 201 in September and up 24% from 168 in October 2010. Farmers received an average of $11.90 a bu for soybeans in October, down 30c from $12.20 in September but up $1.70 from $10.20 in October 2010.

The October index for dairy products was 152, down 6% from 162 in September but up 7% from 142 in October 2010. The average price for all milk in October was $18.70 a cwt, down $1.60 from $20.30 in September but up $1.30 from $17.40 in October 2010.

The October poultry and egg index was 149, up 1% from 148 in September but down 2% from 152 in October 2010. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs in October was $1.04 a dozen, up 2c from $1.02 a dozen in September and up 20c from 84c in October 2010.
