Agitator

Agitator. (a) Any device which, when put into motion or operation, causes the thorough intermingling of several materials to form a homogeneous mixture or mass. (b) In mechanical dough or batter mixers (q.v.), the implement, such as the mixer arm (q.v.) or bar, dough hook (q.v.), wire whip (q.v.), etc., that performs the actual dispersing or mixing function.
