Baking Powder Biscuit. A small, round hot bread (q.v.) popular in the United States, made of flour (q.v.), shortening (q.v.), milk (q.v.), salt (q.v.) and baking powder (q.v.). Normally unsweetened, it has a tender texture (q.v.) and a flaky crumb (q.v.) that results from light kneading (q.v.) and a relatively high shortening content.
