"C.I.P. System. The initials stand for ""clean in place,"" identifying a system in which the cleaning and sanitizing of pipe lines and tank interiors is performed in a closed circuit, thereby eliminating the need for disassembling the equipment into its component parts or units. In the bakery, clean-in-place is applied mainly to liquid ferment (q.v.) tankage."
