Fennel

Fennel. The dried fruit or seed (q.v.) of Foeniculum vulgare, a perennial aromatic herb of the parsley family that is cultivated throughout the temperate zones. The seed has a pleasant aroma and taste that strongly resembles anise (q.v.) and is a popular flavoring adjunct, either whole or ground, for breads (q.v.), rolls (q.v.) and pastries (q.v.)
