Fungi. A diverse group of microorganisms (q.v.) that form the simplest kind of plant life and include mushrooms, molds (q.v.), mildews, smuts, and yeasts (q.v.). They lack chlorophyll (q.v.), are typically parasitic, and reproduce chiefly by means of asexual spores (q.v.) developed in various ways. They make up the plant kingdom Fungi and range in size from the microscopic single cells of yeast to large mushrooms.
