Garlic

Garlic. The bulb of an herb, Allium sativum, made up of a number of smaller bulbs or cloves and characterized by a strong scent and pungent flavor. It is widely used in cooking and, in the form of flakes or powder, as a distinctive seasoning in specialty garlic breads that represent variants of French bread (q.v.) or Italian bread (q.v.).
