Glycogen. The normal reserve carbohydrate of animal cells, composed of dextrose (q.v.)units, with a branched structure similar to that of amylopectin (q.v.) but more highly branched and more compact. It is the principal polysaccharide (q.v.) of yeast (q.v.) in which it may constitute up to 25% of its dry weight.
