Humidity. The perceptible presence or absence of moisture in the atmosphere or in a substance that is capable of absorbing moisture from the air. Humidity may be designated as absolute, which constitutes the actual amount of water vapor (q.v.) present in the air, or relative, which relates to the ratio between the humidity actually present and the maximum potential amount of water vapor that the air can hold at a given temperature and which is expressed in percentage terms (See also Relative Humidity).
