Lauric Acid

Lauric Acid. A saturated fatty acid (q.v.), with a hydrocarbon (q.v.) chain length of 12 carbon atoms (q.v.) and a melting point (q.v.) of 111.5¦F (44.2¦C), that is a widely distributed fat (q.v.) constituent. It is present at levels of 2-8% in milk fats and of 40-50% in coconut oil (q.v.) and palm kernel oil (q.v.).
