Linoleic Acid

Linoleic Acid. A polyunsaturated fatty acid (q.v.) with a hydrocarbon (q.v.) chain length of 18 carbon atoms and two double bonds (q.v.). It is present in many natural fats (q.v.) and makes up 40%, 45%, 50%, and 75%, respectively, of corn oil (q.v.), cottonseed oil (q.v.), soybean oil (q.v.) and safflower oil (q.v.).
