Mace

Mace. The dried, lacy seed covering of the nutmeg fruit (q.v.) obtained from an East Indian tree, Myristica fragrans. The spice has a fragrant, nutmeg-like flavor and a warm taste and is used for flavoring sponge and pound cakes (q.v.), biscuits (q.v.) and sweet dough products (q.v.), and cherry fillings.
