Palmitic Acid

Palmitic Acid. A saturated 16-carbon fatty acid (q.v.), found in practically all known fats (q.v.) and oils (q.v.) and forming a major component of lard (q.v.), tallow (q.v.), palm oil (q.v.), cacao butter (q.v.), and other vegetable fats. It has a melting point of 145¦ F (63¦C).
