Peach

Peach. The sweet, juicy fruit of the peach tree, Prunus persica, that consists of a hard, corrugated pit and a pulpy, yellowish flesh part that is enclosed in a downy skin of red-yellow color. It is widely used as fresh fruit for pies (q.v.) and cake toppings (q.v.) and in cooked form for jams (q.v.) and preserves.
