Solution. The homogeneous, molecular mixture formed by mixing a substance, which may be a solid, liquid or a gas, with a suitable liquid, called the solvent (q.v.). In true solutions, the molecules of the dissolved substance, called the solute (q.v.), are uniformly dispersed among those of the solvent and may be recovered unchanged by physical means, as separating salt (q.v.) from a saline solution by evaporation (q.v.).
