Tunnel Oven. A mechanical oven (q.v.) that has a long, low baking chamber (q.v.), varying in length from 100 to 400 feet, through which a motor-powered baking hearth (q.v.) in the form of a conveyor (q.v.) band passes in a straight line. The band may consist of either solid steel, perforated steel or a woven wire mesh. The baking chamber itself is divided into a series of steam (q.v.) and heat zones, and loading and unloading are performed at opposite ends of the oven.
