Twister. A device of variable design that is attached to the panning (q.v.) end of the moulder (q.v.) for combining two cylindrical dough (q.v.) pieces by a mechanical twisting action performed by two successive pairs of twisting cups. In another version, two moulded dough cylinders are brought side by side in a 180¦ turn of the conveyor (q.v.) under a flexible retaining chain that unites the two cylindrical dough pieces into a single loaf (q.v.) by a twisting action. In a third version, an elongated dough cylinder is curled into three to five helical coils by being passed at a bias under a stationary rod-type coiling belt before being automatically panned.
