Waxed Paper. Thin bleached paper stock of suitable weight, coated on one or both sides with paraffin wax (q.v.) that renders it impervious to moisture (q.v.). The product served as the preeminent packaging material for bakery and other food products until the l940s. It was eventually replaced in the baking industry by various plastic films (q.v.) and now finds little application as a packaging material.
