Yellow Cake

Yellow Cake. A chemically-leavened (q.v.), rich, batter-type cake (q.v.) of variable shape in which sugar (q.v.), flour (q.v.), shortening (q.v.) and milk (q.v.) are the major ingredients, and whose rich yellow color is derived from a liberal use of whole eggs (q.v.). Minor ingredients include baking powder (q.v.), salt (q.v.) and various flavors (q.v.).
