HOLLYWOOD, FLA. — Maureen C. Olewnik, senior vice-president of audit and technical services at AIB International, has received the William F. Geddes Memorial Award for her contributions to the work of AACC International. She was honored during the association’s annual meeting held Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 in Hollywood.

Ms. Olewnik has more than 30 years of experience with research and technical support in the cereal grains industry, with the last 10 years focused on the food safety sector of the food industry overall. She has worked closely with industry, consumer groups and other service providers in helping the Food and Drug Administration identify and better understand current industry best practices in the areas of food safety and certification activities.

She received her Ph.D. degree in cereal chemistry at Kansas State University and has presented and authored peer-reviewed and non–peer-reviewed articles and lectures in the areas of cereal chemistry and food safety. Her research was in the area of near infrared (NIR) analysis and predictive modeling of wheat and wheat flour quality characteristics in the baking process.

William F. Geddes helped boost the association’s reputation in the fields of fundamental and applied cereal sciences. He served the association in a variety of roles, including as president and vice-president.
