OAK BROOK, ILL. — Global comparable sales at McDonald’s Corp. were down 1.8% in October.
“The McDonald’s system remains focused on serving the evolving needs of our more than 69 million customers daily,” said Don Thompson, president and chief executive officer. “Though October’s sales results reflect the pervasive challenges of today’s global marketplace, I am confident that our strategies and the adjustments we are making in response to the current business headwinds will build sales momentum and drive sustained, profitable growth.”
U.S. comparable sales were down 2.2% on modest demand and more competitive activity.
European comparable sales also were down 2.2% as positive results in the United Kingdom were offset by declines in many markets.
McDonald’s said comparable sales decreased 2.4% in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa with negative results in Japan, Australia and China.
