WASHINGTON — September production of edible nonfat dry milk was 84,382,000 lbs, down 21% from August and down 19% from September 2011, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Dairy Products report.
Manufacturers’ stocks of edible nonfat dry milk were 118,334,000 lbs, up 12% from August but down 22% from September 2011. September nonfat dry milk shipments were 81,995,000 lbs, down 35% from August and down 30% from September 2011.
Output of skim milk powders was 43,638,000 lbs, up 8% from August and up 23% from September 2011.
Total dry whey production was 73,999,000 lbs, down 5% from August and down 4% from September 2011.
Production of lactose was 86,684,000 lbs, up 1% from August and up 5% from September 2011. Whey protein concentrate production was 34,009,000 lbs, down 3% from August and down 4% from September 2011.
Dry buttermilk outturn was 6,727,000 lbs, down 1% from August and down 8% from September 2011.
Total manufacturers’ stocks of dry whey on Sept. 30 were 42,822,000 lbs, up 7% from August but down 2% from September 2011. Total lactose stocks were 7,379,000 lbs, down 6% from August but up 79% from September 2011. Whey protein concentrate stocks totaled 54,251,000 lbs, up 1% from August and up 42% from September 2011. Dry buttermilk stocks totaled 7,406,000 lbs, down 7% from August and down 43% from September 2011.
Butter production in September 2012 was 136,427,000 lbs, up 5% from August but down 1% from September 2011.
Total cheese production was 870,564,000 lbs, down 2% from August but up slightly from 868,015,000 lbs in September 2011.
Production of regular hard ice cream in September totaled 58,819,000 gallons, down 21% from August and down 15% from September 2011. Low-fat ice cream production was 33,448,000 gallons, down 18% from August and down 10% from September 2011.
