WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread and whole wheat bread decreased in November, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 141.8c, down 0.4c per lb from October but up 1.9c from November 2011. The decrease followed an increase of 2.1c per lb in October. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in November rose in one region — up 13.4c in the Northeast — and fell in three regions — down 7c in the Midwest, down 3.5c in the South and down 2.5c in the West.

At 199.1c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 2.3c per lb from October and down 10.2c per lb from November 2011.

The national average price of family flour in November was 49.7c per lb, down 1.2c from October and down 2c from November 2011. The average price has now fallen 3.4c per lb over the past three months.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in November was 132.6c per lb, up 4.5c from October but down 0.2c from November 2011. Chocolate chip cookies were 375.5c per lb, up 16c from October and up 13.5c from November 2011. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 70.4c per lb, up 1.9c from October but down 4.8c from November 2011.
