PIERRE, S.D. — “Mapping the wheat genome – what does this really mean?” will be explored at the 2013 Wheat Quality Council annual meeting and technical conference. Bikram S. Gill, a professor of plant pathology at Kansas State University, will discuss mapping the wheat genome during the meeting to be held Feb. 12-14 at the Embassy Suites hotel in Kansas City. Speaking at the opening lunch will be author Noel Vietmeyer, who will discuss his recent book, “Our Daily Bread – the Essential Norman Borlaug.”
Other presenters will include Scott Haley of Colorado State University and Judi Adams of the Wheat Foods Council, who will team up to discuss nutrition and wheat breeding. Ann Hall, with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, and Cheryl Johnson with the Kansas Department of Education will present “Grain Requirements for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.”
Also on the program will be the annual review of new wheat lines submitted for testing from three wheat classes — hard winters, hard springs and eastern softs.
