MINNEAPOLIS — Cheerios will hit the “big” stage. General Mills, Inc. has signed on to advertise the ready-to-eat cereal in television spots airing during the National Football League’s Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2, 2014. It will mark the first time Cheerios has been advertised during the game, and the first advertisement run by General Mills during the event since 1996, when Wheaties ran a spot featuring basketball legend Michael Jordan and football stars Deion Sanders and Steve Young. “The opportunity to be on the big game, in something with that type of scale and number of households that watch it, was very exciting to everyone working on the Cheerios brand,” said Camille Gibson, vice-president of marketing for Big G.
