RICHMOND, VA. — Edward Meise, whose baking career dates back to 1947 when he became a field engineer for American Machines and Foundry Co., Bakery Division, died Dec. 21. He was 90 years old.

Mr. Meise spent 56 years with AMF Bakery Systems, Richmond, Va., holding virtually every position with the company, from service technician all the way up to president. Most recently he was executive vice-president. He also spent 10 years with Maysville, Okla.-based Burford, Corp. as general manager.

He served as a BEMA director and a member of the International, Product Liability and Scholarship committees. He also was a BEMA representative on the American Bakers Association Safety Committee.

In 2002, Mr. Meise was awarded the first lifetime achievement award given out by BEMA.

Mr. Meise was preceded in death by his parents and son, Russell. Survivors include his wife, Cooper; daughters, Paula, Cindi and Linda; sons, Stuart, Steven, William and Andrew; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
