J&J puts twist on Superpretzels
PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — J&J Snack Foods Corp. is expanding its Superpretzel’s soft pretzels line with several new products: Superpretzel SuperTwists, Superpretzel Sweet Cinnamon Soft Pretzel Bites and Superpretzel Bavarian.
Superpretzel SuperTwists combine soft pretzels and cheese fillings in three flavors: honey chipotle, fiery pumpernickel and jalapeno ranch.
Superpretzel Sweet Cinnamon Soft Pretzel Bites combine soft pretzel dough with sugar and cinnamon.
Superpretzel Bavarian Soft Pretzels blend old-world Bavarian style with traditional soft pretzels. The pretzels are available in a variety of shapes and sizes such as braids or jumbo 24-oz.
Cream of Wheat debuts three hot cereals
PARSIPPANY, N.J. — One hundred and twenty years after debuting at the 1893 Chicago’s World Fair, Cream of Wheat is once again offering consumers a new product with the launch of three hot cereals.
Cream of Wheat Maple Brown Sugar Stovetop is the brand’s first flavored hot cereal in the stovetop category. It features maple and brown sugar flavors and is considered an excellent source of iron, calcium and vitamin D. The hot cereal is ready in just 2½ minutes, B&G Foods, Inc. said.
Cream of Wheat Maple Brown Sugar Stovetop is available at major retailers throughout the United States for a suggested retail price of $4.19 for a 28-oz box.
B&G Foods also has introduced Cream of Wheat Instant Bananas and Cream. The flavored instant hot cereal is available at a suggested retail price of $4.19.
Finally, in an effort to reach the growing number of gluten-free consumers, B&G Foods has launched Cream of Rice. The product is available for $2.49 for Cream of Rice Stovetop and $4.19 for Cream of Rice Instant.
New bread for Nature’s Own
THOMASVILLE, GA. — Nature’s Own, a brand of Flowers Foods, Inc., has launched Honey Oat Bread just in time for the holidays. The hearty bread is topped with oats with a hint of honey. The bread contains no high-fructose corn syrup, artificial colors or flavors and no trans fat or cholesterol.
Pepperidge puffs up pastry cups
NORWALK, CONN. — Pepperidge Farm, Inc., a division of Campbell Soup Co., has introduced Bite-Sized Puff Pastry Cups to the freezer aisle. After 20 minutes rising in the oven, the cups may be filled with any combination of ingredients to create appetizers or mini desserts for any occasion.
The cups are sold in 24-count quantities for $3.88.
Rudi’s with the right stuff-ing
BOULDER, COLO. — Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery brings to the holiday table Gluten-Free Savory Herb Stuffing. The stuffing mix is made with the company’s Original and Multigrain bread seasoned with herbs and spices for a festive flavor.
According to the company, the texture is comparable to conventional stuffing, and preparation only takes five minutes.
Chocolate company creates new cheesecakes
CLINTON TWP., MICH. — Sanders Candy is expanding its bakery product line with two flavors of cheesecakes: Chocolate Fudge Bumpy Cheesecake and New York Style Cheesecake. While New York Style is a popular, traditional flavor of cheesecake, Sanders developed the Chocolate Fudge Bumpy Cheesecake as its own spin on the dessert, inspired by the bakery’s Bumpy Cake. It features ridges of buttercream cheesecake on the surface.
The 8-inch cheesecakes are available in the freezer sections of Michigan retail stores for $24.99.
Kathie’s Kitchen sizes up supermarkets with seeds

Frito-Lay focuses on flavor in chip launch

The new product combines the salty flavors of Lay’s Wavy Potato Chips with the sweetness of milk chocolate.

New buns debut at Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr.
CARPINTERIA, CALIF. — Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. are introducing fresh-baked buns for its premium burgers. The raw bun dough is given time to rise before it is baked, cooled, sliced and served, resulting in a dense texture and sweeter flavor, according to the company.
Starting Nov. 14, the new buns will come standard on any Six Dollar Thickburger at Carl’s Jr. and one-third-pound Thickburgers at Hardees’s, as well as substituted on other sandwiches for an additional charge.
Gluten-free oatmeal rolls out
IRVINE, CALIF. — Modern Oats, a new line of gluten-free oatmeal from Innovative Beverage Concepts, Inc., is made with organic, non-bioengineered ingredients, including goji berries, hazelnuts, hemp seeds and cocoa nibs.
Varieties include mango blackberry, chocolate cherry, nuts and seeds, apple walnut, five-berry and goji blueberry.
Each cup has 6 to 8 grams of fiber and 8 to 9 grams of protein. The products are certified kosher and vegan.
