WASHINGTON — After falling sharply in October, the average price paid for white pan bread rebounded in November, rising 2.4c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. The average price of whole wheat bread also was higher, rising 6.9c, ending a string of five consecutive months of lower prices.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 138.2c, up 2.4c per lb from October. The increase followed a decline of 6.1c in October. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in November rose in all four regions — up 3.7c in the West, up 3.4c in the South, up 1.2c in the Northeast and up 0.9c in the Midwest.

At 204.5c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 6.9c per lb from October and up 5.4c per lb from November 2012.

The national average price of family flour in November was 51.7c per lb, up 0.1c from October and up 2c from November 2012.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in November was 129.4c per lb, up 1.1c from October but down 3.2c from November 2012. Chocolate chip cookies were 378.1c per lb, up 9.1c from October and up 2.6c from November 2012. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 72.9c per lb, down 0.5c from October but up 2.5c from November 2012.
