MARION, IND. – The Marion City Council has approved a $48 million economic development project in which Phoenix-based Cafe Valley, Inc. will build a new baking facility in Marion. Cafe Valley is a producer of baked goods -- both private label and its own Cafe Valley Bakery brand -- for restaurants, supermarkets and convenience stores across the United States as well as 50 countries.

The facility is expected to open in 2014 with about 100 employees and may grow to as many as 400 by the end of 2018, the company said.

Formed in 1985, Cafe Valley currently occupies a nearly 300,000-square-foot facility in Phoenix and employs hundreds of workers. The company’s product line includes cakes, muffins and croissants.
