WASHINGTON — February production of edible nonfat dry milk was 137,526,000 lbs, down 4% from January and down 20% from February 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Dairy Products report.

Manufacturers’ stocks of edible nonfat dry milk were 225,153,000 lbs, up 14% from January and up 17% from February 2012. February shipments were 106,569,000 lbs, down 14% from January and down 19% from February 2012.

Output of skim milk powders was 43,178,000 lbs, down 10% from January but up 137% from February 2012.

Total dry whey production was 80,783,000 lbs, down 11% from January and down 10% from February 2012. Production of lactose was 78,253,000 lbs, down 12% from January and down 4% from February 2012. Whey protein concentrate production was 34,193,000 lbs, down 7% from January and down 4% from February 2012. Dry buttermilk outturn was 12,197,000 lbs, down 13% from January but up 14% from February 2012.

Total manufacturers’ stocks of dry whey on Feb. 28 were 68,476,000 lbs, up 7% from January and up 32% from February 2012. Total lactose stocks were 88,957,000 lbs, down 1% from January but up 27% from February 2012. Whey protein concentrate stocks totaled 55,856,000 lbs, down 1% from January but up 37 from February 2012. Dry buttermilk stocks totaled 22,429,000, up 3% from January and up 14% from February 2012.

Butter production in February 2013 was 171,263,000 lbs, down 9% from January but up 1% from February 2012.

Total cheese production was 857,365,000 lbs, down 8% from January and down slightly from 857,526,000 lbs in February 2012.

Production of regular hard ice cream in February totaled 62,645,000 lbs, up 12% from January but down 1% from February 2012. Low-fat ice cream production was 32,125,000 lbs, up 13% from January and up 3% from February 2012.
