MANHATTAN, KAS. — Eight home bakers from across the nation will gather in Manhattan June 20-22 to participate in the National Festival of Breads, America’s only amateur bread baking contest. The biennial contest is sponsored by the Kansas Wheat Commission, King Arthur Flour and Fleischmann’s Yeast. The bakers will prepare original bread recipes in miniature kitchens, with one baker earning a prize package worth $5,000, including cash, an expense-paid trip to the King Arthur Flour Baking Center in Norwich, Vt., and a year’s supply of Fleischmann’s Yeast.
