WASHINGTON — Congressman Pete Sessions of Texas and Karen Hughes, worldwide vice-chair of Burson-Marsteller, will deliver keynote presentations as part of the joint board meeting of the American Bakers Association and the Allied Trades of the Baking Industry set for Oct. 28 in Dallas.  

Mr. Sessions will share his insights on controlling health care costs, releasing businesses from onerous regulatory burdens and the House of Representatives’ plan to spur sustainable economic growth in the 114th Congress. Serving his ninth term in Congress, Mr. Sessions works on various congressional committees and caucuses, including the House Committee on Rules in which he serves as chairman. In 2008 and 2010, he was elected by the House Republican Conference as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Ms. Hughes, one of the world’s foremost communication strategists, will join the group during its dinner event to provide her insights on the fundamentals of leadership developed from her experiences with President George W. Bush and leaders around the world.

Before joining Burson-Marsteller in 2008, Ms. Hughes was Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, where she led the U.S. State Department’s effort to communicate America’s values abroad. She also was counselor to President Bush from 2001 to 2002. In this role she acted as strategic adviser to the president on policy and communications and managed the White House Offices of Communications, Media Affairs, Speechwriting and Press Secretary.
