VANCOUVER, B.C. — GLG Life Tech Corp. has received a letter of “no objection” from the Food and Drug Administration for the use of Rebaudioside M stevia extract in table-top sweeteners and as a general purpose non-nutritive sweetener in food, the Vancouver-based company said Oct. 27.

GLG Life Tech in April made a Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) filing with the F.D.A. after GRAS Associates, L.L.C. studied Reb M and concluded it was safe. Stevia extracts such as Reb M and Reb A are used as sweeteners. GLG Life Tech also has submitted GRAS filings for Reb C and Reb D to the F.D.A.
