SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL — Fire reached a warehouse at Terminal Sugar Exporter of Guaruja (TEAG) on Oct. 20, according to Cargill. About 50,000 tonnes of sugar were affected. The fire did not reach the second warehouse or the ship-loading area. The total storage capacity of TEAG is 110,000 tonnes. No injuries were reported.
A Reuters news report said the fire destroyed the sugar warehouse in Brazil’s Santos port. The TEAG sugar terminal is a 50-50 joint venture of Cargill and Biosev, a sugar unit of Louis Dreyfus Commodities, according to Reuters.
Cargill said the cause of the fire is being investigated and that teams are focused on a rapid recovery of operations. The terminal has insurance for buildings, equipment and inventories.
