CLEVELAND – Panera Bread cafes in northeastern Ohio are drawing attention to a partnership with the Cleveland Clinic. A special promotion is aimed at supporting the clinic and highlighting heart healthy menu choices during American Heart Month.

Covelli Enterprises, the largest Panera Bread franchisee, is offering free coffee refills during February at 40 Panera cafes in Ohio with the purchase of a $10 travel mug. A portion of the proceeds from the mug sales will benefit heart care at the Cleveland Clinic, Panera said.

Panera noted it collaborated with nutritionists at the Cleveland Clinic to offer menu options meeting nutritional guidelines set by the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart and Vascular Institute Heart and Vascular Institute at the Cleveland Clinic.

Heart approved menu items include the Power Breakfast Egg White Bowl with Turkey, a whole grain bagel, a Mediterranean egg white breakfast sandwich, Asian sesame chicken salad and the café salad.

In addition to the mug fundraiser, area cafes will be raising funds through Operation Dough-nation canisters in the cafes. The funds will support heart research, education initiatives and patient care at the heart and vascular institute at the Cleveland Clinic.

Covelli operates more than 250 Panera cafes. In addition to Ohio, the company runs Panera stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky and Florida as well as Ontario, Canada. The business is headquartered in Warren, Ohio.
