WILLAIMSBURG, VA. — Harry T. Ambrose, who for many years was an executive in the milling division of Continental Grain Co., died Feb. 20 in Williamsburg.

Born in Decatur, Ill., in 1933, Mr. Ambrose held degrees from Dartmouth College and Creighton University. After three years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, Mr. Ambrose joined Allied Mills, which was later acquired by Continental Grain Co. He spent the early part of his Continental career in Chicago but moved to New York in the early 1980s as part of ContiMilling (later the ContiLatin division of Continental Grain).

He returned to Chicago in 1990 as the area vice-president, industrial procurement the company’s World Milling business. He retired in 1996 though in 1998 he taught a corn marketing case study as part of a training program in Westchester, N.Y. for Continental Grain managers early in their careers.

In the years after his retirement, Mr. Ambrose was active in his Virginia Beach community, serving as an elder in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, a mentor to M.B.A. students at the College of William and Mary, a tutor of English as a second language and as an active member of the Republican Party of Virginia.

Survivors include Margie Ambrose, his wife of 58 years; children Julie Seipel (and her husband Mark), Colin Ambrose (Jessica) and Becki Ambrose (Alec Winters); and six granddaughters. A life celebration will be held March 29 at 2 p.m. at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Rd., Williamsburg, Va.
