WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread rose in February while the price of whole wheat bread decreased, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 138.8c, up 2.3c per lb from January but down 2.3c from February 2013. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in February rose in all four regions — up 2.9c in the South, up 2.7c in the Northeast and Midwest, and up 0.2c in the West.

At 206.8c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 0.5c per lb from January but up 4.3c per lb from February 2013.

The national average price of family flour in February was 55.5c per lb, up 1.2c from January and up 3.1c from February 2013.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in February was 126.5c per lb, down 2.5c from January and down 8.3c from February 2013. Chocolate chip cookies were 332.9c per lb, up 5c from January but down 29.6c from February 2013. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 73.2c per lb, up 0.1c from January and up 2.4c from February 2013.
