MINNEAPOLIS — General Mills, Inc. is adding to its Cheerios lineup with the launch of Cheerios Protein, a new cereal featuring 7 grams of protein (11 grams with milk), 13 vitamins and minerals, more than half the daily value of whole grain, and a good source of fiber.

Cheerios Protein combines toasted “O”s with crunchy granola clusters in two flavors: oats and honey, and cinnamon almond.

Cheerios Protein oats and honey includes oats and honey sweetened whole grain oat cereal with oat granola clusters and honey. The variety features soy protein, and contains 17 grams of sugar, 4 grams of dietary fiber, 280 mg of sodium and 210 calories per serving.

Cheerios Protein cinnamon almond combines sweetened oats and whole grain corn cereal with almond granola clusters and cinnamon. The variety features soy protein isolate, and contains 16 grams of sugar, 3 grams of dietary fiber, 220 mg of sodium and 220 calories per serving.

By comparison, original Cheerios contain 3 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar, 3 grams of dietary fiber, 186 mg of sodium and 103 calories per serving, while Honey Nut Cheerios have 2 grams of protein, 9 grams of sugar, 2 grams of dietary fiber, 160 mg of sodium and 110 calories per serving.
