WASHINGTON — U.S. 2014 all wheat production was estimated at 2,035,373,000 bus, up slightly from 2,029,638,000 bus forecast in August and down 99,606,000 bus, or 11%, from 2,134,979,000 bus in 2013, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its Sept. 30 Small Grains 2013 Summary.
The U.S.D.A. all wheat production number was above average pre-report trade estimate of 2,033 million bus.
All wheat yield was estimated at 43.8 bus an acre, down slightly from 43.9 bus in August and down 3.3 bus from 46.3 bus an acre in 2013.
Production of spring wheat other than durum was estimated at 600,753,000 bus, up 28,192,000 bus, or 5%, from 572,381,000 bus forecast in August, and up 66,652,000 bus, or 12%, from 534,101,000 bus a year ago. The average yield was estimated at 46.9 bus an acre, up slightly from 46.1 bus in August and down slightly from 47.1 bus in 2013.
Production of hard red spring wheat was estimated at 737,937,000 bus, up 9,123,000 bus, or 1%, from 728,814,000 bus in August and down 9,436,000 bus, or 1%, from 747,373,000 bus in 2013. Hard white spring wheat production was estimated at 11,490,000 bus, up 191,000 bus from 11,299,000 bus forecast in August and up 430,000 bus, or 4%, from 11,060,000 bus in 2013. Soft white spring wheat outturn was estimated at 30,552,000 bus, down 2,184,000 bus from 32,736,000 bus forecast in August and down 2,422,000 bus, or 7%, from 32,974,000 bus in 2013.
Durum outturn was estimated at 57,094,000 bus, down 3,421,000 bus, or 6%, from 60,515,000 bus forecast in August and down 882,000 bus, or 2%, from 57,976,000 bus in 2013. Durum average yield was estimated at 41.6 bus an acre, down 1.1 bus from 42.7 bus an acre in August and down 1.7 bus from 43.3 bus an acre in 2013.
The U.S.D.A. durum number was below the average trade expectation of 61 million bus.
The U.S.D.A. estimated winter wheat production at 1,193,234,000 bus, down slightly from 1,195,176,000 bus in August and down 122,620,000 bus, or 9%, from 1,315,854,000 bus in 2013. The U.S.D.A. estimated winter wheat yield at 42.6 bus an acre, down 0.5 bus from 43.1 bus in August and down 4.7 bus from 47.3 bus an acre in 2012.
The U.S.D.A. other spring wheat number was above the average trade expectation of 572 million bus.
Hard red winter wheat production was estimated at 737,937,000 bus, up 9,123,000 bus, or 1%, from 728,814,000 bus in August and down 9,436,000 bus, or 1%, from 747,373,000 bus in 2013. Soft red winter production was estimated at 455,297,000 bus, down 11,065,000 bus, or 2%, from 466,362,000 bus in August and down 111,184,000 bus, or 20%, from 566,481,000 bus in 2013. Hard white winter wheat outturn was estimated at 11,490,000 bus, up 191,000 bus from 11,299,000 bus forecast in August and down 430,000 bus from 11,060,000 bus a year earlier. Soft white winter wheat production was estimated at 172,802,000 bus, down 17,465,000 bus from 190,267,000 bus in August and down 43,186,000, or 20%, from 215,988,000 bus in 2013.
The U.S.D.A. hard red winter wheat number was above the average trade expectation of 728 million bus, and the soft red winter number was below the average trade estimate of 470 million bus.
