LEESBURG, VA. — Samuel H. Rogers Jr., retired chairman and president of Wilkins-Rogers Milling Co., Ellicott City, Md., died Oct. 27 at Spring Arbor of Leesburg, a senior living community in Leesburg. He was 93.

Raised in Hamilton, Va., and Washington, Mr. Rogers attended the University of Maryland School of Engineering. He served in World War II in Europe as a 1st lieutenant in the 42nd Infantry Division.

Following his military service, Mr. Rogers joined Wilkin Rogers, initially selling dairy feed. For many years located in Georgetown, along the Potomac river, the Wilkin-Rogers business in 1973 relocated to Ellicott City, where it continues to operate.

Active in various milling organizations (he was a past chairman of the American Corn Millers Federation), Mr. Rogers also was involved with the Millers’ Mutual Insurance Co. as well as serving on bank boards. For longer than 50 years, he raised and raced thoroughbred horses from his White Oaks Farm in Leesburg.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years Carolyn; children Carolyn R. Rainbow (William A.T. Rainbow), Ocala, Fla.; Susan R. Parks (Kenneth), Leesburg; and Samuel H. Rogers III (Matthew L. Hamblet), Jefferson, Md.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Nov. 5 at the Loudoun Funder Chapel in Leesburg.
