KANSAS CITY — Bars are big in new product launches, from meal bars boasting cricket flour to snack bars packed with plant protein.

Getting innovative with insects, Exo is launching a line of savory meal bars made with cricket flour. The organic bars, available in Barbecue, Mango Curry, and Mediterranean flavors, offer 11 grams of protein and contain no preservatives, soy, dairy, or gluten.

Atkins Nutritionals is offering low-carb snack solution with its Harvest Trail Bars. The bars provide 8 grams of protein, 9 to 10 grams of fiber, less than 7 grams of net carbs, and contain no artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives or sugar alcohols. Harvest Trail Bars are available in four varieties: dark chocolate peanut butter, dark chocolate sea salt caramel, dark chocolate cherry and nuts, and vanilla fruit and nut.

ViSalus is providing plenty of plant protein with its new Nutra-Bar line. The bars feature whey, pea and brown rice protein, are kosher and gluten-free, and contain no artificial flavors or preservatives, trans fats, high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, sulfur dioxide or M.S.G. Available in chocolate caramel and peanut butter and jelly flavors, Nutra-Bars offer 8 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber per serving.
