WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 1.4c per lb in October while the price of whole wheat bread fell 3c in the month, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 141.8c, down 1.4c per lb from September but up 0.4c from October 2014. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in October decreased in three regions — down 7.7c in the Northeast, down 0.2c in the Midwest and down 0.1c in the West — and increased in one region — up 0.7c in the South.

At 197.8c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 3c per lb from September and down 2.3c per lb from October 2014.

The national average price of family flour in October was 51.1c per lb, down 0.6c from September but up 1c from October 2014.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in October was 129.7c per lb, up 1.5c from September and up 3.1c from October 2014. Chocolate chip cookies were 339.1c per lb, up 2.5c from September and up 9.6c from October 2014. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69c per lb, up 2.8c from September but down 3.3c from October 2014.
