SCHAUMBURG, ILL. — Gonnella Baking Co. has opened a new cold storage and distribution center in Schaumburg. The facility will serve as the Chicagoland pick-up point for Gonnella’s baked frozen line of products, which are delivered nationwide, the company said.
“Sales have been steadily increasing in our baked frozen division, making now the opportune time for Gonnella to move its storage and distribution operations,” said David Gonnella, national sales manager. “It’s the first step in consolidating various supply and handling activities to achieve greater efficiency.”
The 34,000-square-foot building sits on a 3.78-acre site 2.5 miles from Gonnella’s Schaumburg bakery. The warehouse has 7 exterior docks, 1 drive-in dock and 18 truck parking spaces with plug-ins. The temperature-controlled facility also has 1,800 square feet of refrigerated dock area and storage capacity with 1,900 pallet positions.
Inside, the freezer storage area has 29-foot ceilings and the dry storage area has 30-foot ceilings. Approximately 1,000 square feet of office space and parking for 44 cars is included, as well.
“This refrigerated warehouse solution allows Gonnella to consolidate several product channels under one roof immediately — while offering room for growth,” Mr. Gonnella said.
He pointed out customers will experience no disruption in service and delivered clients will be unaffected by the move to the new facility dedicated to the handling and distribution of baked frozen products.
Founded in 1886, Gonnella produces more than 4 million lbs of product weekly in four facilities. In addition to delivering fresh bread daily to retailers and restaurants from Green Bay, Wis., to Indianapolis, Gonnella offers several product lines within the consumer packaged products, fresh baked, fresh baked frozen, and frozen dough categories. The company also provides contract baking, private label products and custom baking solutions.
